Clark & Chamberlin LLC was created in 1986 through a merger of Clark and Company and Chamberlin and Company. Clark and Company was a Certified Public Accounting firm, licensed in Pennsylvania, which originated after a spin-off of another large local CPA firm. Chamberlin and Company was also a Certified Public Accounting firm licensed in Pennsylvania, which was founded in 1960.
Lawrence Chamberlin was originally the managing partner of the Pittsburgh office of Price Waterhouse, one of the largest CPA firms in the nation. He was actively involved within his profession and a respected tax authority. As former president of the Pittsburgh Tax Club, an elite group of tax professionals within the Pittsburgh area, he helped steward changes in tax policies that are in existence today.
Charles K. Clark graduated from Slippery Rock State University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science Degree concentrating in Economics and Accounting. In 1982 he received his Masters of Science Degree from Robert Morris University with a concentration in Taxation (MS). He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Financial Planner® (CFP), Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA), Accredited Business Valuation Specialist (ABV), Business Valuation in Litigation (CEA-BVL), Personal Financial Specialist (PFS), Certified in Financial Forensics® (CFF), Forensic Certified Public Accountant® (FCPA), Accredited in Business Appraisal Review (ABAR), Master Analyst in Financial Forensics™ (MAFF), Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA)(an International designation) as accredited by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) as accredited by the American College, as well as enrolled in the CFA Institute, formerly the Association for Investment Management and Research, in order to obtain his certification as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Shortly after graduation from Slippery Rock, he started out as a Staff Accountant for Chamberlin & Company. After three years, he then became employed with two diversified Fortune 500 manufacturing companies as their Manager and Director of Domestic and International Taxes. He returned to public accounting in 1980 and became the managing Tax Partner of a large local CPA Firm. In 1987, he started and became Managing Partner of Clark and Company. On January 1, 1989, the firm of Clark and Company acquired the firm of Chamberlin and Company, which he started with, to form the firm of Clark and Chamberlin.
Chuck is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a member of the International Board of Standards and Practices for Certified Financial Planners, Inc., The Financial Planning Association, and a Charter member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts. He has served as Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President and President of the Pittsburgh Chapter of The Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has also been Chairman of the Distinguished Lecture Banquet, Chairman of the Committee on Taxation, Chairman of the Committee on Budget & Finance, Pittsburgh Chapter’s Executive Committee, Tax Committee of the AICPA, Committee on Continuing Professional Education as well as the Subcommittee to Review Long Range Educational Issues, Committee on Appointments and Committee on Members consulting service. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Western Pennsylvania Community Accountants, as well as the Slippery Rock University Foundation, both Non-Profit Organizations. He was appointed and served as Chairman of the Professional Ethics Committee of The Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants which helps promote and maintain high professional standards of practice for its members and served as an elected Vice President, Member of Council and Executive Committee of The Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants which is the governing body for CPA’s in Pennsylvania. He is licensed to practice as a CPA in the states of Florida and Pennsylvania. He is actively involved with the PICPA Legislative Committee as well as their Political Action Committee which helps provide guidance and support to the state and local legislators on various matters that affect the business community in Pennsylvania. He has served as Chairman of the statewide Member Services Committee, Chairman of the Management of an Accounting Practice Committee of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants as well as Chairman of the Member Needs Assessment Task Force.
Chuck has also received the Distinguished Service Award given by The Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants for the year 1987-1988 and then again in 2006-2007.
Chuck’s interest in education has widely involved him within the teaching profession; he is a former Adjunct Professor at Robert Morris University, a former Instructor of the Becker Conviser CPA Review course and former Chairman of the Accounting Department Advisory Board of Slippery Rock University. He has testified as an expert witness on business valuation and litigation matters in civil and criminal proceedings, as well as arbitration hearings. He has been admitted in court and master’s hearings as an expert witness in business valuation, disposable income, fairness opinion and economic damage cases in the U.S. District Court, U.S. Bankruptcy Court and various Pennsylvania counties. He has also lectured at various colleges and universities and written and published numerous articles for Professional organizations on tax and ethics related matters. He has appeared on numerous television and radio broadcasts to discuss various professional issues such as economic trends, tax law changes, ethical challenges, as well as, appearing with Robert Kiyosaki (author of “Rich Dad Poor Dad”) at his Journey to Financial Freedom seminars. In 2008 Chuck was mentioned as a possible candidate from Western Pennsylvania for a position in the office of the United States Department of Treasury.
He is a former member of the National Management Association, Tax Executives Institute, Allegheny Tax Society and Robert Morris Associates – an Association of Lending and Credit Risk Professionals. He is actively involved with American Youth Hostels, Hurricane Island Outward Bound School and serves as a board member of various non-profit organizations that help young adults and children that are at risk. Chuck is also a 2nd degree Black Belt Instructor for the Korean martial art of Tae-Kwon-Do and is actively involved in community and ministry events.
Bryan P. Brown graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration concentrating in Accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA)(an International designation). He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Bryan is active with Pittsburgh start-up companies. He previously presented and met individually, with Alpha Lab start-up companies twice a year to emphasize the importance of developing a strong team of advisors to assist such companies achieve their goals. He also discusses the importance of proper financial and tax planning strategies to prepare the company for long-term growth. He currently continues these presentation when requested.
Bryan was also one of the founders that created a group of young professionals who meet once a month to discuss current economic and business conditions that young entrepreneurs are dealing with as they strive to succeed in today’s environment.
Bryan is active within his children’s school as the Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball coach. His Tiny Dribblers basketball program has performed as halftime entertainment at Greensburg Central Catholic High School, Duquesne University, St. Vincent College as well as for the Harlem Globetrotters. He also started a cross country program for kindergarten through eighth grade, at his children’s school, Queen of Angels. He has three boys and is very active with charities and fundraising efforts that directly impact his family. He also serves on the finance committee at his parish, St. Agnes.
Including the creation of Chamberlin and Company, the firm has been in practice for over fifty (50) years and has always maintained a downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania presence. Clark & Chamberlin LLC has been referred to as a “boutique” firm. The reason for this designation is due to the firm specializing in tax and consulting services. The firm is recognized as a highly knowledgeable and specialized professional firm.
Clark & Chamberlin LLC does not provide services for audited financial statements, retirement plan administration or services to non-profit organizations. However, the firm employs other companies to provide such services to its clients.
